What is an SDS sheet?Updated 2 years ago

A safety data sheet (SDS) is a document that provides in-depth information about a fragrance oil. It is required by Health Canada that a fragrance oil supplier must provide every customer with the SDS sheets for each fragrance oil they purchase.

An SDS sheet explains the potential hazards, safety measures, and handling procedures for that particular fragrance oil. It is important for candle makers to use the SDS to ensure they are handling the fragrance oil safely and taking appropriate precautions. The SDS typically includes information on the chemical makeup of the fragrance oil, physical and chemical properties, handling and storage instructions, first aid measures, and disposal instructions.

Candle makers should use the SDS to understand the possible hazards associated with the fragrance oil they are using, including any potential risks to their health or the environment should the recommended safety precautions not be followed. They should also use the handling and storage instructions provided to minimize the risk of accidents or spills.

Additionally, if any accidents or spills occur, the SDS will provide information on how to properly clean them up and dispose of any contaminated materials. By following the guidelines outlined in the SDS, candle makers can ensure that they are using the fragrance oil safely and minimizing any potential risks.
